Counselling Of An Infertile Couple

Counseling is the first and the most important step in infertility treatment. Initial counseling and time spent with the couple plays a very vital role in management of patient. As infertility is a social stigma in our culture, not only the involved couple but also the concerned relatives should be involved in counseling. We explain each and every step of management to them. We also aim to propagate the correct knowledge through the patients to their families and other infertile couples by helping them understand the correct procedure.

Laparoscopy And Hysteroscopy

Laparoscopy and hysteroscopy are useful tools for the evaluation and treatment of various structural causes of infertility. They are minimally invasive surgical procedures. They are of great help to diagnose and treat conditions like endometriosis, uterine fibroids, endometrial polyps, uterine anomalies, pelvic inflammatory disease and other infections. It also helps to confirm the patency of fallopian tubes.

Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI)

IUI is a type of artificial insemination procedure for treating infertility. A bolus of washed sperms is placed in the uterus directly, bypassing the vaginal acidity and cervical hostility. This allows a safe and quick access of sperms to ova in the ampullary part of the oviduct. It is an assisted conception treatment method that can be used for alleviation of infertility in certain groups of patients.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection is an in vitro fertilization procedure in which a single sperm cell is injected directly into the cytoplasm of an egg.

This technique is used in order to prepare the gametes for the obtention of the embryo.

Follicular Study

Follicular study constitutes series of ultrasound vaginal scans to identify if a woman is ovulating and to monitor follicle rupture. This is also known as FOLLICULAR TRACKING. It is done multiple times between 9^th to 20^th day of a woman’s menstrual cycle. It is a noninvasive painless procedure.

Embryo Freezing

Embryo cryopreservation involves freezing and storage of formed embryos for use in future. The frozen embryos are then later thawed when needed in IVF treatment at a later date. The embryologist place the embryos in a special machine that slowly cools them down in stages and then cryoprotective agents are added following which they are stored in liquid nitrogen at -196 degree Celsius.

VITRIFICATION is a newer and more successful technique that places embryos in a solution containing a much higher concentration of cryoprotectants.

Frozen embryos can be stored for an indefinite period of time.
